Create documents as part of the workflow

It is currently only possible to create documents from templates manually as a user, however it is quite often that these are created as part of a workflow and don't need user intervention (i.e. New Starter form for HR, Purchase Order creation, etc.).

This currently can be achieved through scripting by using SQL Server Reporting Services to generate and file a document as part of the workflow, but this means that this cannot be done with Therefore Online and doesn't result in documents as easily modifiable as templates created using the standard templates functionality.

For a Dutch customer (and i know also for a Hungarian customer) we developed two workflow DLL's to automatically create documents based on templates.

    1. PDF forms

This solution allows a workflow to fill in a PDF form using index fields from a category/case and additionally add a QR code to the created PDF file. The filled in PDF form is stored in a Therefore Category for further processing by a workflow. The templates are stored in Therefore.

    2. Word templates

Similar to the PDF forms solution. We store a Word template in Therefore and use the Open XML SDK to fill this Word template with information from category/case index fields. With the use of the Open XML SDK it is possible to create Word files without the need to install Microsoft Word on the server (which is not supported for automatic processing). The Open XML SDK is available free of charge and the license allows automatic creation of documents.
