New automatic task to apply a barcode/QR code onto a document

Users want to create a workflow and apply a barcode to a document. Main use case is that this document is later sent externally. The barcode should contain index data information or reference information that allows the document be assigned correctly when being returned / scanned in again.

Use Case example:

Delivery document is created - barcode with the order number is applied - document is sent/printed - document is signed by the customer - signed document will be scanned again and should be added to the system by using the order number from the barcode applied earlier.

As discussed adding barcodes to documents is possible in several ways. Starting with Therefore 2022 we also documented how Word barcode features can be used to easily create documents in a Workflow based on a Word template which also supports QR barcodes and also works in Therefore Online without a barcode. See Thus, we mark this idea as 'shipped'. In case you have a specific use cases which is not fully covered, please create a new entry.

Now we do that with a customization. in 2 ways. 1) based on a word template, filled by contant of indexes and added at the end of the document, or 2) creating and appliyn over the document a barcode or adding at the end of the document. adding means manipulating a PDF and adding 1 page more.

    Really a good idea.

I have created a workflow DLL that enables the stamping of QR codes on PDF documents. I propose to extend the currently available stamping feature with stamping of barcodes/QR codes dynamically created based on indexdata.

I have a copy of a DLL that does that, may be the same as the one you are talking about Juan, but when I implemented it into production it was buggy & workflows would get stuck on the DLL workflow object. Ended up going with doing it directly on the document before it is saved then converting to a PDF.

I had some customer's requirements about this issue. The post processing out of Therefore is smoothly if we can provide a coded document. A possible workaround will be a task that generates a PDF version of the doc and create an Annotation (like Viewer) with a codebar or QR generated by a field value of the category or case. The annotation must be in parameters the possition, opacity, etc. Would you like it?

    Barcodes can already be done.
When you create a document based on a template, you just place index data on the document and use a Barcode font.
A bit more tricky to create QR-codes.
